Magic layout is created by reading a 2µm CIF file written by Alliance. An example layout as it appears in the Magic editor is shown below.

Magic cell example

I have used Magic only for extraction and writing clean CIF and GDS layout files, and not for interactive editing. Personally I don't like Magic much which is a reason why I have not used it often.

I don't like the hatching on the well layers, the lumpy look of the metal-1, the way the contacts are shown with an X, and I don't know how to distinguish net names which are cell connectors from names which are internal. If anyone knows how to fix the above please let me know.
